Educating Translators

You have to come a long way to become a qualified translator. Translators are mainly graduates of various types of studies, e.g. philology and applied linguistics.

Undoubtedly, the most vital condition which has to be met, is to become familiar with a particular foreign language. Currently, many people speak even several foreign languages, but, as it turns out, not every one of them can be a translator. Interpreter should mainly demonstrate a high resistance to stress and divisibility of attention. Written translator, on the other hand, should be observant and self-critical.

Memory exercises, ability to listen in various conditions and noting techniques are some of skills which are mostly emphasized during translation trainings. In Poland, translators are educated in many universities, i.e. Polonia University in Czestochowa, UNESCO Chair at Jagiellonian University in Cracow and Faculty for Applied Linguistics at University of Warsaw.
